Somehow, I had forgotten this little gem until I happened across it when looking for videos for the last post. This combines two of my favorite things, Henrik Lundqvist's pretty face and Martha Stewart in all her uptight glory.

I really can't put my finger on my favorite part. The audiences reaction once they realize what Lundqvist looks like, the awkward small talk, Martha being Martha, it's all so amazing.

I think today is the perfect day to make my triumphant return to the world of blogging about how yumtastic goalies can be.

I also think the best way to make my triumphant return is to present all you lovely ladies with some delightful videos of goalies doing what they do best: getting hearts pumping before the game has even started.

I have no idea what I would do if the only thing separating me from a stretching goalie was some plexiglass and maybe half a foot.

Of course, I've saved the best for last.

I swear, Henrik Lundqvist could talk about the stock market and I would still be mesmerized.

ASG (All Star Goalies) !!!!

First, apologies for being so neglectful of my ~~responsibilites~~ duty to all women of the world on keeping up with the blogging here but I am back and excited to share with you some photographs/video from this little event the NHL puts on every year -the NHL All Star Game- this year held in my fair city! I wish I could show you some of my own pictures from the event but I was unable to sell my car, house, or soul for tickets so I'm hoping between my words and the pics from the pros, the story will tell itself! First off, can I just toot my own goalie lovin horn and say how proud, elated, jumping for joy I was that my goalie love ~~Sens~~ ~~Avs~~ St Louis goalie Brian Elliott was invited to the All Star Game?!!? There is a good chance I was more excited than he was upon hearing this news. So he in all his handsome sweatered glory:

Jonathan Quick, Tim Thomas, Carey Price, Henrik Lundqvist, and Jimmy Howard came to town to spend the weekend checking out my city! Three of my goalie crushes all in one place...trouble....two of them are in this picture...anyone else wish they were in the middle of this goalie foursome?

I'm easily distracted which probably explains why I have watched this about ~~one~~ two hundred times

The more videos I see the more it's obvious goalies are not as ~~weird~~ different as players will tell you! In fact they look like a lot of fun don't they?

I had originally intended on posting this all in one post focusing on the ASG but there is just too much good stuff to put all in one post (good news because I still must do one devoted to Carey "Could I Be Any More Handsome" Price and one to Jonathan "You wanna pinch my cheeks don't you" Quick) and this one seems to be looking more and more like a Brian Elliott love in (so intentional) so before I head off to goalie dream land let me share with you a few more snaps from the weekend

Don't get to see them sans mask and goalie pads very often so this is a little treat no?

So this past week was the Annual College Classic at Germain Arena in Fort Myers.... My family and I like to go every year to support Cornell (Home town team for us) and also it's a great day of hockey! Since Maine won last year, they were back again this year..... and much to the surprise of my daughter, so was her goalie :)

*Emma watching Maine warmup on the glass* All 3 goalies came over and tapped on the glass and waved at her... I swear she was on cloud 9!

So this is my younger brother Tyler, and Emma. Tyler has played hockey since he was Emma's age and still plays in a pickup league on Sundays. Emma spent most of the Classic with my Mom's camera taking pictures of "Her goalies" My brother brought his friend Chad with him, who also plays in the Sunday league, and he was telling Emma all about playing Goalie (he skates out most of the time, but is a goalie) She was listening so intently to him, holding on to every word!

Emma had a blast at the games! Maine WON again this year, so she's already planning for next year's classic! She managed to walk away from the game with a even more pronounced love for hockey and goalies, and 4 pucks! One from Uncle Tyler, One from SwampHockey, and 2 from the Maine players during warmups :)

My favorite picture of the evening was the Cornell goalie.... He's POCKET SIZE :)

So I think after this weekend, I'm going to need to get Emma some skates and lessons.... Uncle Tyler already bought her a stick.... She really wants to learn how to play hockey. :) I may have a future WNHL player on my hands :)

Normally, I wouldn't have any patience for a goalie in a Flyers themed lid.

Nor would I appreciate him and his four game win streak and ECHL goalie of the week honors Ccoming to my barn when my team's goalies deserve every single award the league offers. Even the awards for skaters.

Honestly, I wanted to hate Brian Stewart and his goofy goaltending style and his dumb mask.

And I did manage to... for one period. Then he came on over to my end of the rink and did this...

Let me just transcribe my thoughts as he did his warm-up:

- Oh, hey big boy. Gonna get out position a few more times and let my boys win? I hope so.
- Yup, you're gonna give up so many goals ya big goober.
- Siiieeeevvvveeeee!
- Ooooh, well hello. Look at you. Nice stretching.
- Oh my.
- Oh my.
- Giggle.
- Holy shit you just did a split!YOU JUST DID A SPLIT!
- Oh! Oh!
- WHY IS THERE NO OXYGEN IN THIS ARENA?!
- *untillegible happy noise*
- MARRY ME.

Ahem. Anyway, Brian Stewart. Yes. He's been putting up nice numbers and earned goaltender of the week honors for his four game (now it's five games) win streak. He's a former NCAA goalie... you know what? You guys don't care about this. No normal human being's brain could work after that video. My brain still isn't working at full capacity after witnessing that live.

Let's just all agree that is an excellent warm-up and Brian Stewart is excellent and the only thing that could make it better is a a backbend. Ohhh, never mind. Scratch that, a backbend would have left me comatose for the rest of the game.

I'm not sure how I'm going to survive the next two nights of the series with him trying to impregnate the ice as I watch, but I'm going to tough it out for all of us and take one for the G5H team. Because that's just what I do.

I'll probably need to bring a tank of oxygen though....

The best way to prepare for tomorrow is a pre-hump day warm-up. I have to admit, I'm a little saddened by the lack of flashy stretching going on in Lightning prospect Pat Nagle's warm-up. Luckily, his play lately has redeemed him.

On a slightly related note- It's almost time for my local arena to be invaded by yummy barely legal college goalies. Unfortunately, I will not be witness to Connor Knapp's backbend. I've cried a little about that to be honest. I'm consoling myself with the promise of fresh... uh... talent.

Let me just tell you, She was so excited to get her picture taken with Bobby the Goalie, and the reason her mouth is open in the second picture, is because she was saying "I love you Goalie"!!!!! So damn cute!!!!

So this past Sunday, I was lucky enough to take my daughter to see her Uncle play hockey. Now my brother has played since he was 5, and he's been playing ever since. He's 25 now, and he plays in the adult league at Germain Arena. I hadn't seen him play in a few years, and I'm glad I got the chance to see him skate again.

Now Uncle Tyler made SURE that Bob, the teams goalie, knew that Emma was coming to watch and she was in love with goalies. So before the teams went onto the ice, I walked Emma down to where Tyler's team was waiting, and let me just say, my daughter seeing a goalie, up close, was more exciting to her than meeting Mickey Mouse! I didn't think that was possible! Her whole face lit up and she had the biggest smile! She got a hug and a high five, and honestly, I know I've said this before, but this is the start of a serious love for hockey and the masked bendy men :)

I'm very happy that my daughter is falling in love with the sport, she knew who to cheer for and yelled at the other team when one of their players knocked "Her" goalie over!

She's too damn cute... I promise pictures are coming :)

Meet the latest object of my goalie love.

That's John Muse by the way. He's a Charlotte Checkers prospect that was sent down to my Everblades. He's also totally adorable and pretty inspiring goalie love-wise.

You could almost call him... my new MUSE!

I'm so sorry. I had to do that. It was just sitting there waiting to be said and you know you thought of it too.

One of my favorite things about him is how adorable he is. Watch this video and tell me you don't want to smoosh his face and feed him homemade apple pie. He's just so cute!

Now, if your one of those people who loves flashy goalies he's probably not your cup of tea. He's not going to drop into incredible contortions to make the save. He's was too busy setting himself up and anticipating what was going to happen so that he didn't have to.

Really, he gets my heart racing by not giving me regular heart attacks. And you know what? It's a very refreshing change of pace not to have the object of my goalie love attempting to put me into the hospital.

That's not to say he never throws himself into contortions, he does, He just doesn't do it with the regularity that forces me to keep a copy of heart attack symptoms on hand.

He's on that newfangled Twitter thing too. I find him pretty hilarious.

Did I mention he's won to NCAA championships and currently has the third best GAA in the ECHL right now? Awesome.

We've done posts on Marc-Andre Fleury before, but let's be honest, he's just too fantastic to only do one post on him. On top of him being awesome, is my excitement at getting to see him when I make the haul up to Tampa Thursday to see him. SQUEEEEE!

Consider this a warm-up for hump day people. Tomorrow I have a post on the newest target of my goalie love and he is pure adorkable.

Reasons To Get To Your Seats Early

Sure you want to avoid the rush at the parking lot, get in line first at the concession stands, take your jacket off, get settled in but this is the reason I always make sure to get to my seats early...You don't see much in the first 20 seconds but trust me, you'll want to hang around til about the 22 second mark...this is Semyon Varlamov of the Washington Caps settling in for another day at the office....

Don't always count on seeing that during warm ups (although it is always a nice way to start the game off if you do) but who doesn't love the variety of the "goalie warm up". No two masked men do the same thing but rumor has it, their routine, uniquely their own, is the same day in and day out. A ritual if you will and we're all invited to watch! A close second to bearing witness to any man that can do the splits is watching them chalk the crease. For those who don't know, exhibit A...chalking the crease...brought to you by Caps Prospect and Hersey Bears netminder Braden Holtby

And when the goalie warm up ends with ~~Brian~~ ~~Elliott~~ my future husband doing this

You too may be finding you need a bit of H20 to ~~cool yourself off~~ rehydrate. And just in case you were going to get up to use the ladies room, grab a drink, or stretch yourself you may want to stick around for the start of the 2nd and 3rd periods or you may miss Neuvirth doing this

What have we learned today? Sure there is a ton of action during three periods of hockey, but if it's the goalies that hold a special place in your ~~inappropriate "I hope nobody can see what I am currently thinking" daydreams~~ heart, the real action happens before the game /period even begins!

A Little of This A Little of That....

Hello everyone! I too am very excited to be here (writing at G5H that is) and hope that you'll enjoy my posts as much as I enjoy reading (ya right, reading!) the ones that have been posted here before me. I am relatively new to the world of hockey fandom (only a few years now) and wonder how as a Canadian I didn't fall in love with the game (or the goalies) earlier in life. I don't have a "favourite" team so to speak. In truth, I just love hockey so I will watch any hockey I can find be it on tv or here in the city. I'm lucky enough to live in Ottawa where we have both an NHL team (Sens) and an OHL team (Ottawa 67s) so there is definitely no shortage of hockey here. So that's me, now I'd like to introduce you to the man who introduced me to the world of goalie love, meet Brian Elliott:

Look at those eyes. They did it for me. And not only is he incredibly adorable, I've met him and he is incredibly sweet. There were tears when he got traded here:

Because we don't get too many visits from either of these teams in the course of a season. So, I am left to flip aimlessly through my NHL tv package desperately trying to find a St Louis game just to get a glimpse.

So hello everyone! I'm Jess, a mommy, full time student and lover of all things hockey. I've been following this blog and Swamp Hockey for a while now, and jumped at the chance to write for G5H!

Let me give you a little background:
* I'm originally from Buffalo NY, YES the Sabres are my favorite team, and YES I love Ryan Miller! (*Swoon!*)
* I have grown to love the Tampa Bay Lightning ( Not just a bandwagon type of love, a honest to goodness love)
* I have a almost 4 year old daughter who is IN LOVE with Hockey and Goalies ( I know I'm in SO much trouble!)
* I hate being called a "Puck Bunny!" Seriously, I know the sport! I love the sport and I know how much time and energy and determination it takes for these guys to be on their game each night.
* I have a amazing fiance who I've introduced hockey to, and he LOVES the game now!

I'm excited to share my hockey love with you all!

Well, it turns out we're the worst bloggers on Earth. The good news is, I've come up with a brilliant idea! We need more writers on this blog! I figure with more people we'll have a better chance of reducing the slacking and actually getting you guys a regular serving of yummy goalie.

So, how do you get in on this? Simple, shoot an email off to SwampHockey@gmail.com. If it's in English and there are no typos you're in. If you can geta post up every other week at the very least I'll be happy. My main goal is to keep this blog going.

We're Back...and We Brought a Friend

As the kids go back to school and summer comes to an end it's time to get back into the swing of things. I was recently surfing through our Twitter feed when I discovered a gem of a lady. Her name is Rachel Lindstrand and she writes a charming blog entitled huggingthepost56.

Her posts explore her life, love and happiness in the crazy world of professional hockey. Her latest post inspired (full paragraph 22) me and so I pass that inspiration on to you.

Now most of the time I'm unaware of goalies significant people so we unashamedly ogle. This time I'm going for mostly classy and we mean no disrespect to either party.

We're simply about admiration, Rachel and Mike are both cute as a button.

Dishy Goalie Monday-Henrik Lundqvist

I know it's been awhile, but we're back with DGM. Seeing as how the 2010-2011 hockey season is at a close I was looking for inspiration, I did what most modern writers do when they're looking for inspiration... I googled. I'm not ashamed to say that I googled "shirtless hockey goalie" because you would too (or already have).

The result of my search is the one and only Henrik Lundqvist. Now I will fully admit that I have respected Mr. Lundqvist's skills in net for quite awhile, but before today I never paid attention to his engaging smile or powerful eyes. Boy was I missing out.

Now I think that the pictures mostly speak for themselves....

Anyway, Meet Nicola "Nic" Riopel. He's a 2009 Flyers draft pick. As much as I'd love to hold that against him I can't. He's just too stinking adorable.

Seriously, that accent! That hair! Oy vey. How can you not want to take him home and... uh... admire him. Yup. I wasn't going to say anything other than admire.

You guys remember Connor Knapp right? He was one of the stars of one of our earliest posts. Turns out, he's on Twitter and he's adorable.

He was also kind enough to prove my hypothesis that goalies know exactly what they're doing when they stretch.

I really hope Miami of Ohio comes back to our local College tournament. I'll reserve a memory card just for him.

Starring Pekka Rinne as Mr. Darcy

As summer approaches I've made a pact with myself to expand my mind and not my waist line. With that goal I've begun reading the complete works of Jane Austen (in between hockey games).

Pride and Prejudice got the honour of being the first and with it Mr. Darcy makes an appearance. No, he isn't really named Mr. Darcy. No, I'm not Elizabeth Bennet. No we don't hate each other then fall in love. In fact he doesn't know I exist (though until recently I didn't know he existed either).

Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators is one attractive man. He came to my notice during this years playoff run (lord I've been missing out).

So why Mr. Darcy...

Pekka Rinne is honourable. He stood on his head for his team, made some incredible saves, and remained poised throughout the high pressure playoff atmosphere.

Dishy Goalie Monday-Michael Leighton

Pokechick gleefully pointed out that we here at G5H shun the Philadelphia Flyers and all of their affiliates. It's true. For the most part I can't stand the Flyers, but their is something about a goalie in orange pads that warms my heart (see Zane Kalemba).

So without further ado, this weeks DGM is......... Michael Leighton.

Leighton was not on the casual hockey fans radar until the 2009-2010 playoffs where Leighton proved clutch for the Flyers.

This year he has spent most of the regular season playing in the AHL for the Adirondack Phantoms. Over 30 games with the Phantoms Leighton posted a respectable 2.22 GAA and a .926 SV% and looked mighty fine doing it.

Leighton has once again joined the Philadelphia Flyers for a playoff run.

What's Not to Love?

I've admitted my love for minor league journeymen before. One of my favorites? Todd Ford. Seriously, check out his stats. Dude has been around more than a puck bunny with daddy issues (oooooh, too far?).

I've been watching him come through for a couple of seasons now and I have to say he nice to watch. Aside from really filling up the crease...

mmmmmmmm...biggoalie...mmmmmmmm....

... uh, yeah... where was I? Oh, yeah, dude fills up the crease. Right. Uh, he also has some bad ass tatste in music if his mask is any indication.

I just can't help but adore a man who appreciates Johnny Cash.

Add to that his penchant for coming out of the crease and its true goalie-love.

I don't think there is really anything left to say, so, I will leave you with this hilarious video of Ford and his Stingray teammates taking on a local Boys and Girls club in a rousing game of dodgeball.

Dishy Goalie Monday- Michal Neuvirth

Warning: I LOVE Michal Neuvirth

Stanley Cup Playoff's are in full swing and as we watch the first-round match ups, it comes as no surprise that rookie goaltender Michal Neuvirth has been outstanding.

The 23-year-old Czech native has been a work horse for the Washington Capitals this season. While many were debating which goaltender would start for the Caps, there was little question in my mind, Neuvith has the net.

Through his first three playoff appearances, Neuvirth stats are spectacular, 1.22 GAA with a .951 SV% and a shutout.

None too shabby for a rookie goaltender in his first full season in the NHL. The former Hershey Bear is ranked first among Rookie goaltenders in the playoffs.

Neuvy played in 48 games this season, winning 27 of them.

While Semyon Varlamov struggled with injury, Neuvirth shined....

and stretched.....

and stretched a teensy bit more.

While I can't (won't) speculate on the outcome of the playoffs, I can say that I thoroughly enjoy watching Neuvirth in net and that's enough of a reason to wish for a long run for the Capitals.

Dishy Goalie Monday- Jose Theodore

Playoffs are right around the corner and this week we're featuring a none playoff contender, who nonetheless greatly impacted the playoffs.

Jose Theodore is a goaltender for the Minnesota Wild. His 26 save effort against Dallas on April 10, 2011 granted the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup Champion, Chicago Blackhawks a playoff berth.

Theodore is a NHL veteran having played for the Canadiens, Avalanche, Capitals, and most recently the Wild. His indomitable spirit is truly inspiring.

Jose spent two seasons with the Washington Capitals before finding a home in Minnesota, splitting ice time with Niklas Backstrom.

Alot has been written about Jose Theodore. The tragedy he faced with the death of his infant son, being teamless at the end of summer 2010, and his time in Montreal.

Me, well I just want to write about his eyes.

The seriousness of his gaze is mesmerizing.

The Minnesota Wild signed Jose Theodore at the last minute and the decision was sound. While the team is in flux, one thing is for certain, the former Vezina winner has still got it.

I don't think it's any secret that I love minor league hockey. I write a blog about my local ECHL team for crying out loud. One of my favorite things are minor league goalies. I'm not talking about the guys that are just paying their dues before they can move up or some big name prospect smoothing his rough edges by being peppered with 30 something shots in a game.

I'm talking about the guys who, for whatever reason, will spend their entire careers in ancient stadiums in front of 3,000 fans (at the most). One of my favorite career minor league goalies is Ryan Nie. I'm pretty sure I know why he's never really had a chance in the upper levels, but it doesn't matter.

The dude is fantastic. He really is.

Admitting that I adore him as much as I do is extremely hard for me. The guy has quite a knack for making my teams life miserable when he comes to town.

By my count, he's played for nine different teams in the last four years. I really can't help but adore him for that. It's like he's the saddest little puppy in the pound that just can't find that one home he's meant for.

The saddest part? This guy can put up wicked win/loss numbers. Take right now for example, 30-16-5. Last season? 28-12-4. It just keeps going.

Of course, I would be remiss in not mentioning how easy on the eyes he is. In fact, let me share a quote from the lovely person who sent these to me, Lisa (@Mnemneth):

"A lot of people made fun of me for falling all over myself in front of him, but he was just too cute. I love broken noses and he has the most gorgeous blue eyes and long eyelashes. He's totally sweet and definitely team-oriented. Always does what's best for his boys."

Dishy Goalie Monday- Mike Murphy

DGM is all about inspiration. This week was difficult and I was struggling for a clear vision. I reviewed several prospects for todays post, including Thomas McCullom (ECHL to NHL in 1 week), and a hockey hall of fame post, before deciding upon Mike Murphy.

Murphy is a Hurricanes prospect that plays for the teams AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. Prior to being injured Mike was posting some pretty solid stats and while those are titillating in their own way, Murphy gets the nod for much much more.

Murphy's qualifications for DGM:

1. Yes, he is more than a pretty face and awesome flow.

2. @MichaelMurphy31 is great about interacting with fans, he even lets the broads attempt to wheel him on twitter.

Murphy's Mail Bag began last season when the team resided in Albany, NY. This year we have the added pleasure of Michal Jordan.

Quick flashback. We all should have known this was coming. Rocking that shade of yellow is a skill all on its own.

5. Murphy is the Checkers "Man of the Year" for his continued work with Checkers charities and promotion of good causes.

What can I say? He's handsome, funny, charitable and likes kids. Sounds like a pretty damn good DGM to me!

Dishy Goalie Monday- Bryan Pitton

DGM is usually based on a feeling, some might call it intuition, I call it attraction. This week is special and features a repeat guest, Bryan Pitton. You might remember him from PokeChicks post "Pitton Goes Pipe-to-Pipe".

Pitton was brought to our attention by @msconduct10. He is a 23 year old prospect for the Edmonton Oilers and currently plays for the Oklahoma City Barons. Pitton has also played this season with G5H alum, Zane Kalemba.

Now I know you're all waiting for the photos, but we like to get to know our boys a little before we ogle them shamelessly. So here is 5 little tidbits on the admirable Mr. Pitton.

When assigned to the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL, Bryan plays alongside his older brother Jason.
He is from Mississauga, Ontario (allegedly the current home of Don Cherry).
Was drafted in the 5th round #133 overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2006.
He stands 6'2" and weighs in at 176 lbs. He has a wiry strength about him.
He has dreamy bedroom eyes.

Refreshing.

Wait the best part is right around the corner (or down the page).

With moves like these, I'd love to see a goalie dance off with @Geffman47.

I have to admit that I'm aware our poor coverage of AHL goalies is an injustice to all our loyal readers. To make it up to you, I will share with a goalie who is hands down the most adorable thing to ever step on the ice.

This is Anton Khudobin. He's from Kazakhstan. He's also so cute it hurts your teeth.

He was given the nickname Dimples by his adoring fans in Houston. This interview with him might give you a hint as to how he earned it.

Did I mention he gives the most wonderful interviews ever?

You may remember him from earlier in the season when, during a call-up, he had a few starts for the Minnesota Wild. During one of those games he was able to shut-out some team called the Vancouver Canucks.

I can't be the only one to have a "OMG, must cuddle" reaction to this picture (I do forget who sent it to me though, sorry).

For some silly reason the Minnesota Wild chose to send him to the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline. Because an AHL goalie on a call-up shutting out the Canucks is no big deal I guess. This ended up benefiting not just Khudobin, but the Providence Bruins as well. He reacted to the new atmosphere by playing some of his best game all season going 5-1-1.

His style is decidedly unique. One of the best descriptions I've ever heard described him as a whirling dervish. Having seen him in action several times over the last few years I couldn't agree more. He can give you palpitations with his play, but honestly, it's part of his charm and it works.

Cougar Time...Patrick Killeen

Love is such a fickle creature. Last night I went to the Florida Everblades vs. Wheeling Nailers game with @Swamphockey. It was supposed to be routine guest tweeting appearance and then 6'4" of deliciousness hit the ice.

Patrick Killeen's style is a little aggressive (he really doesn't like you in his crease) and he has the size to easily enforce it. He only spent one period in our end, but the connection was there (delusional). I promise.

Killeen is a rangy Pittsburgh Penguins prospect who has a gift at covering the bottom of the cage (seriously his legs go on forevvvvver).

We made googly eyes at each other (at least that's what I'm telling myself).

Pokechick (who could not attend) jokingly recommended via text, "flash him your tits." I did not want to win that badly.

While the Everblades lost 3-1, not flashing turned out best for all. Killeen is only a baby and will celebrate his 21st birthday on April 15th. *Sigh, Yes I am a dirty old woman.

No worries Everblades fans Bobby Goepfert is still #1 in our hearts and though it almost got me fired from my guest tweeting (intern my butt), I'll say it again "Bobby Goepfert is back in our end. No more fantasizing about the other goalie. #Goepfertbabiesonly"

Dishy Goalie Monday- Jaroslav Janus

Alrighty folks here we go with another DGM. As I sit down to research and write these each week I've come to realize that the interleague goalies are traveling soldiers. One such goalie is Tampa Bay prospect Jaroslav Janus.

Janus has split his time this season between the AHL Norfolk Admirals and the ECHL Florida Everblades. The Slovakian cutie received his fifth AHL call up on March 18th, but was back with the Everblades for their Sunday game against Gwinnett Janus posted .92 SV% during the game and helped the Everblades win 5-3.

Now his traveling stamina is admirable, but he has some "other" talents. Janus has the ability to make me swoon during his warm-ups.

About 3 seconds after this photo was taken Janus will booty pop and my heart will skip a beat.

Janus, who speaks multiple languages sports his Slovakian heritage on the back of his helmet.

I've never seen a man look so good in pink.

Welcome to our late night DGM. Tonight we'll take a gander at Mr. Braden Holtby a goaltender for the Washington Capitals and their affiliate the Hershey Bears.

Holtby relieved Michal Neuvirth after the first period versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Braden Holtby is well known for his quirks and warm up routines and the frog impression he did upon taking the ice was no different.

This year a new junior team came to town, and I have to admit, it's been a revelation.

Junior hockey goalies are one of the most adorable things ever. Now, they're no competition for pictures of adorable kittens...

But what is? Thankfully, these soon to be pros certainly make an effort.

My favorite fresh faced youngster is no exception.

This is Joe Keyser, and before you start worrying about the FBI knocking on your door know that he is 18.

He's put up some nice numbers in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League. His 3.28 GAA and .884 SV% have earned him goaltender of the week as well as two shut-outs.

And I can't forget how fond he is of the poke-check. Is there anything better than a goalie that loves to poke check?

Seven-Ten Split, French Style

Today's goalie-licious post is 21-year-old Adrien Lemay from the ECHL Idaho Steelheads.

French-Canadian Lemay made his professional debut with the Florida Everblades last season, so featuring him on Going Five-Hole is extra nostalgic for miss Lady Byng.

If goaltending doesn't pan out, we bet he could one-up that little twig gymnast Shawn Johnson for the 2012 Olympics. Or maybe they should just date, their kids would be the human equivalent of Gumby.

Before joining the Steelheads, the Quebec native appeared in 20 games for the Allen Americans of the CHL, with a couple of call-ups to the AHL Texas Stars. In net for the Americans, he registered a save percentage of 0.887 with a GAA of 3.31.

In his three games in Idaho, he's improved to a .921 SV% with 2.21 GAA.

And because everyone loves a goalie superstition, here's a video of Lemay in an Everblades sweater warming up against the (then-ECHL) Charlotte Checkers last season.

Wednesday Pick Me Up- Jason Labarbera

I discovered Jason Labarbera 1 week ago today. I was sitting in the St. Pete Times Forum watching warm ups when this piece of awesomeness started stretching. Now I didn't have my camera with me, but some creative facebook stalking of Caity Kauffman (@caitykauffman) has allowed me to provide photographic (yes photographic not pornographic) evidence.

Labarbera plays for the Phoenix Coyotes and currently sports the #1 on his sweater. He stands 6'3" and is from my favourite area of Canada (points for being from BC).

I submit exhibit A to the evidence.

Dishy Goalie Monday- Dan Ellis

It's trade deadline day and here on DGM we're going to focus on one of our favourite casualties. On February 24th Dan Ellis was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Curtis McElhinney (who TPA waived and was picked up by OTT today).

Ellis who is now the starter in Anaheim as Jonas Hiller overcomes

a case of vertigo, visited SW Florida during the Lightnings' team trip.

The Lightning came to the Naples/Ft. Myers area and managed to squeeze practice into a hectic schedule of golf and team bonding.

Practice yielded some delicious photos of the bendy Ellis.

Now Ellis has had some issues in the past with social media, but overall I think he gets an unnecessarily bad rap. Seriously, how can you hate on that!

Wednesday Pick Me Up- Niklas Backstrom

I already had a post in mind for this weeks DGM when Niklas Backstrom had to be completely ridiculous and change all of my plans. So this week I've slipped in a little extra love. This post will focus on the delicious Backstrom and possibly the prettiest save of the year.

So here we go....

I always feel weird introducing NHL guys, it seems like everyone already knows the information, but I like to give a little background, it helps with the imagery.

Niklas Backstrom is from Helsinki, Finland and stands just over 6 feet tall (without skates). During Hockey Day in America Backstrom and the Minnesota Wild went up against the Detroit Red Wings and Backstrom came up huge!

Those deep penetrating eyes are so intense I swoon.

I think I'm too young for hot flashes, but good lord.

Dishy Goalie Monday- Zane Kalemba

My Dishy Goalie Monday post for this week was inspired by all my friends recently rattling on about baseball and its farm system. They pointed out that the hockey system is complicated (who knew). We call people up, lend them out, assign them elsewhere, and send them down. In the minor leagues the movement can give you whip lash and for many fans its easier on the heart and the head to not get attached to any one player.

Especially since sometimes we simply release them and the fans are left wondering, "now what"?

With that in mind it is always nice when you hear good news about the players who left you wondering. Here we have Zane Kalemba, a player whose travels have crossed the country.

The first time I encountered Kalemba was during his time with the Reading Royals of the ECHL. It was the Royals vs the Florida Everblades at Germain arena and Kalemba stood out the moment his skates hit the ice. What was so special you ask? Well the answer lies in his pads.

Kalemba was still sporting his collegiate gear, a bright orange colour befitting his four year career at Princeton.

Personally, I found them endearing, but Swamphockey wasn't as big of a fan.

Shortly after the trip to Florida, Kalemba got bounced around once again and found himself in a tricky situation. He ended up in Stockton, California playing for the Thunder, who after a season ending injury to Alex Stalock and the call up of Tyson Sexsmith had a spot to fill for a quality goaltender.

Zane Kalemba got a chance when starter Bryan Pitton got injured during a game versus the Ontario Reign. Since then the fans in Stockton have welcomed him whole heartedly.

Dishy Goalie Monday- Marc Andre Fleury

Since Valentine's Day is characterized by chocolate and flowers, G5H has decided to feature the flower of our hearts (or some of our hearts), Marc Andre Fleury.

If you don't know Fleury, he is the #1 net minder for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While I'm not personally a fan of the Penguins, even I have to admit that he makes some beautiful saves and if HBO's 24/7 is any indication, he is quite charming.

There is all sorts of sexiness going on right here!

Even if he did stop AO, I forgive him simply for the splits.

That's Black Hawks prospect Joe Palmer by the way. He's currently playing for the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL. As you can see from this interview he did last year he's a pretty hard working guy. He's also a good guy at heart, taking time off of his busy schedule to help hand out coats to the homeless.

And we just can't forget that he's also kind enough to preform a very important service to all the female hockey fans that go to his games.

Dishy Goalie Monday- Double Feature

Alrighty, it's Monday again and while many dread Monday's, I look forward to it because Mondays are where I get to stare at sexy goaltenders and its for legitimate reasons. So this Monday, we have not one subject to ogle, but two.

This week at Going Five Hole we are featuring the goal tending duo of Marc Cheverie and Chet Pickard from the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.

So you may ask yourself, what earned these two beauties a feature on G5H? Well there is the obvious reason (soon to follow), but I have a slightly more sinister motivation. Both goalies recently joined Twitter.

Without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to #35 @Chevdawgy .

Cheverie is listed at 6'2" and 185, the Nova Scotian pays homage to his draft team, the Florida Panthers on the side of his lid.

Probably my all time favorite stretch. Every time I see it I get an inappropriate for public feeling.

Next up we have the Nashville Predators 2008 18th overall draft pick, #31 @CPickard37.

Chet Pickard uses all 6'3", 216lbs to full advantage and really fills his crease.

Pickard is new to twitter, but is already using it to raise money for Hockey Players 4 Kids, a charity that the Cyclones are active with every season.

Wowzers, they have some great moves and they're charitable. You now have an excuse to follow some very yummy goalies, cause its a you know, for a good cause.

Quite a Conundrum

Every once in a while you come to a point in your life where you're faced with a question.

Meet Chris Carrozzi. As you can see, he's quite the bendy fellow. He's an Atlanta Thrashers prospect currently playing in the ECHL. He has a decent 12-10-1-4 record, not the best in the league, but not the worst.

The problem? He appears to be the owner of the ugliest gear on Earth.

So, ladies (and fellas if you're hanging around), what do you think? Can a goalies bend-abiltiy overcome some truly horrendous taste? Or can nothing overcome the combination of burgundy and Vegas gold?

Dishy Goalie Monday- Danny Battochio

Meet Danny Battochio, from Lively, Ontario. He was brought to our attention by Ms. Conduct and is a gift that keeps on giving. Sometimes its hard to find the photos that we love, but Danny Battochio is made for G5H.

The minute I entered his name into google search, I started to feel a little flush. #30 Battochio currently plays in the CHL for Rapid City and looks mighty fine.

Dishy Goalie Monday-- Martin Jones

Today's guest on DGM is Martin Jones, a goalie prospect for the Las Angeles Kings. Jones has been posting some pretty sexy numbers in the AHL with the Manchester Monarchs.

The North Vancouver native is more than a pretty face and is currently rocking a .93 save percentage and allowing only 2.17 GAA.

One of the most impressive aspect of Jones' history is that he managed to go undrafted. He's getting alot of attention for his impressive play in the AHL, but its not the first time Jones has gotten attention.

Jones played four years for the Calgary Hitman of the WHL.

Jones' using his long... long... legs in the World Juniors to completely stonewall his opponents.

The man has beastly potential and if you keep an eye on the Kings, I expect you'll see more of him in the future.

My Current Obsession

Ahem. Sorry, I was having a moment there. That's Bobby Goepfert, one of the goalies for my local ECHL team. He's pretty awesome, and if you haven't noticed, he's the current object of my goalie obsession.

His warm-up is definitely fun to watch...

And he's a pretty good dancer too...

Most importantly, he's one of the goalies who was featured on Puck Daddy last month for the fight he got into after sticking up for one of his defensemen in a line brawl. In case you missed it...

The best part in all of this? I get to go watch him in action tonight!

Dishy Goalie Monday-- Matt Dalton

Alright, so this week we start our first DGM (dishy guy "goalie" monday)-- the concept is borrowed from writer Katie MacAlister and hopefully she won't mind if we put our own G5H spin on it.

This Monday's featured goalie is... drum roll please....... Matt Dalton.

Dalton is a member of the Boston Bruins system and is currently playing with the Providence Bruins of the AHl. He is posting a cool .918 save percentage.

My favourite part of Matt Dalton, is his ability to pull off so many different colour combinations. In the last three years he has played for an equal number of teams and leagues. This makes him by far one of the most accessible goalie prospects.

Dalton wore #1 while at Bemidji State from 07-09.

Next we find Dalton, in the ECHL with the Reading Royals... He spoiled the Florida Everblades hopes of a Kelly Cup run.

And finally at the Boston practice rinks with the other masked men of the Bruins system....

Sigh..... We await your visit Mr. Dalton.

Tall, Dark, and Bendy

This enigmatic fellow is Dov Grumet-Morris. He's kind of an intense looking dude.

Did I mention he's dominating the ECHL right now? He leads GAA, Save %, and has backstopped his team to the top of the league.

Of course, this is all par for the course for him. His stats are proof of that.

Meet #1 Semyon Varlamov of the Washington Capitals and my current crush of the week.

There is no experience better than walking into a rink right before warmups. You get hit with the uniquely hockey smell, you see the empty seats waiting for the fans to arrive, and the kids crowding the glass, waiting for the first skate to touch the ice for warmups.

The best part is when the players skate out and you have that moment. You know the one I'm talking about. The one where you see a player and you just know... He is going to be your favourite.

Now, everyone has their own reasons for falling in love. This was mine....

The Cure for a Bad Day

So, work was bat shit crazy, my NHL teams have been slumping, my ECHL team was swept in their series with the fourth worst team in the division, and my Visa bill is due Monday.

Calling this week crappy is a huge understatement.

Luckily, I know what can be done to make everything better...

Pokechick here, and thanks to a submission from @nickyrobinson, we're going to pay tribute to NHL veteran Martin Brodeur.

Old school Marty looks quite fierce. I wonder how far those legs will reach...

As you know, we are very sensitive to avoiding any sort of underage goalie porn, if anyone has any clue what year this was taken - let us know in the comments.

Here's another one of good ol' Marty from last season's Devils vs. Panthers match-up. Looks like those hips aren't showing any signs of rust (wish we could say the same about his save percentage and the rest of the Devils roster).

I don't think it's too much of a secret that I love photography, in particular hockey photography. I spend a lot of time checking out the work of other hockey photographers. I have to admit, I was pretty floored by these beautiful shots of San Jose Sharks Goaltender Antti Niemi in Hockey Broads Flickr stream. I would also be remiss if I didn't point you toward her excellent blog. It's definitely a must-read.

Sigh. Between this fabulous Finn and Marty Turco bending in every single direction possible I may have to watch more Western Confrenece games. Might be time to check the Lightning and Panthers upcoming schedules. Might be time for a goalie-ogling road trip.

Two for One

Have I got a deal for you today! Two delicious goalies for the price of one.

First up, Richard Bachman of the Texas Stars.

This fourth round pick of the Dallas Stars in the 2006, has been having quite a year. He had a few minutes of NHL time, and is currently 7th in the AHL's top goalie standings. You can see the rest of his stats here.

Next up is Wild prospect and current Houston Aero, Matt hackett.

The third round pick has been putting up some nice numbers for the Aeros, as you can see from his stats. He also looks pretty good in this video of him denying some kid named Taylor Hall.

Every year my local ECHL team holds an NCAA hockey tournament. This was my first year going to all the games. You know what? NCAA goalies are just as yummy, if not more so, than professional goalies. The big question is, who wins the yummiest goalie of the College Classic award?

Ladies and gentlemen I'd like to introduce you to the newest fad in goalies...

That teeny tiny, amazingly flexible goalie is Jeff Lerg. Currently playing for the Trenton Devils in the ECHL. He's listed at 5'6'', but I'm pretty sure that measurement was taken while he stood on his tiptoes wearing skates.

Have I mentioned that he has one of the best warm-ups I've ever seen?

And I can't forget his fondness for foxy saves...

The next submissions comes to us from the Western Hockey League's Everett Silvertips. I had to do a little math to make sure both of these guys were over 18. Lucky for us, they are...

I believe the first would be Luke Siemens (I could be wrong), while the last two appear to be Kent Simpson. Not only are these two fantastically flexible, their stats aren't too bad either.

These were submitted by @erinolsw0123, who was beaten out of the first submitter award by barely an hour. We'll go ahead and give the runner-up submitter award. So, if for whatever reason Ms. Crash can't fulfill her duties as first submitter ever, you will take over in her place.

Hello everyone! Byng here. You met PokeChick, and her amazing writing, yesterday. Now it's my turn. While I'm not as good a writer as the other ladies here, I'd like to think I make up for it in pure spunkiness and photographic abilities. I have to admit that I love that I woke up to two submissions in my inbox and had three more by the time I got out of the shower.
